Liverpool boss Arne Slot says he understands Caoimhin Kelleher frustrations after the Republic of Ireland goalkeeper revealed this week that staying at Anfield was not 100 per cent his decision.
Kelleher, 25, said he has made it clear his desire is to move elsewhere to be No 1, and at a press conference in Ireland, the goalkeeper added that the Reds’ signing of Georgian international Georgi Mamardashvili was a hint the club want to go in a different direction.
Liverpool reject Forest’s low bids for Kelleher in January and the summer but Slots is not bother by Kelleher’s comments and says he would be more concerned if the player said he did not want to play every week when asked about it.
“I would be very concern if a player came out and said, ‘I’m not interest in playing in the first team, I like to sit on the bench and I want to be here for the rest of my life,’ that would be a bigger concern for me,” Slot said.
“It’s normal that they want to play, but it’s also normal for a big club like this to try to compete for trophies. There are more than 11 players. They accept their situation, not in a way that they don’t care, but in a way that they can help the team whenever they need to.”
“This is a good place to be. Caoimhin has shown many times over the last few years and even in pre-season that he is available when we need him. It’s good that he wants to play and who knows, he might play for us in the future.”
“But at the moment it’s very clear that Alisson is UFABET the number one. It’s normal for a player who isn’t playing to want to play, but he’s coped very well with that situation.”
